HAPPY HORSE HAVEN RESCUE

Together we can make a difference!

Happy Horse Haven Rescue is a fully volunteer organization located in beautiful and historic Mills County in Central Texas.

Imagine what it must take to care daily for approximately 125 equines, many of them recovering from past physical and emotional trauma.  In order for the trained volunteer staff to have time to focus on their rehabilitation and individual treatment plans, many hands are sought to help with the animal’s daily needs such as a clean shelter, food, water, exercise, grooming and LOVE. Experienced riders may become part of the evaluation team or assist with other tasks on horseback.

Why Do I Volunteer at Happy Horse Haven Rescue?

I have witnessed the transformation of horses that arrived under nourished and what can be accomplished to bring them back to good health.  So, if you ask me why I volunteer to work with Shari Frederick at HHH Rescue,  the answer is easy: 1. It gives me a chance to give to a worthy cause 2. for the love of animals and knowing I had a part in the outcome.

Horses Help Humans when Humans Help Horses!

Horses are intuitive animals and in spite of the horrors they may have faced they will willingly meet, greet and join up with people at the rescue who often face their own difficulties. When working with rescued horses the humans go beyond getting outdoors to breathe fresh air and connect to nature.  Simply petting or grooming a horse brings a special peace and calmness to both horse and human.  Our volunteers step out of their regular lifestyles and enjoy doing ranch work at the rescue.  Interactions at HHHR help humans by enhancing their social skills, physical skills, and confidence, while building awareness, coordination, and trust.  Over time humans working with horses discover a heightened sense of achievement while decreasing stress and reducing anxiety.   There is no doubt, given time to bond with horses, the horse will most assuredly enhance a human's sense of overcoming life’s obstacles.
